The Dancers.

First noticing and loving the energy and colour of light in 2012, Larisse became captivated by the idea of light as medium. Our most primal time tool, Larisse uses light to explore the ephemeral nature of time. She combines traditional techniques of painting and/or form, with science and light, to celebrate time as our most precious resource.

Motivated by the success of her first light installation (exhibited Light Nelson 2014), Larisse spent a year experimenting before producing her first light infused, time transformative ‘painting’.

That same year, her light sculpture Flirt was long listed in the Aesthetica Art Prize, England (2015). In 2018, Larisse had work selected to exhibit digitally internationally, as a finalist in Art Takes SOHO 2018 (See.Me) and Art Takes Miami 2018 (Scope See.Me).

New Zealand born, Larisse spent her first 17 years growing up in Manurewa, Tāmaki Makarau. She attended James Cook High School and comments: “I recall the initial stages of the Botannic Gardens and am humbled now to have work included in Sculpture in the Gardens”.

A full time arts practitioner since 2008, Larisse works from her studio in Nelson, New Zealand. Moving to Nelson (from the UK) after stabbing the map with a pin in 2001, she lives with her husband and their two teenagers.

Larisse is represented by The Central Art Gallery, Christchurch
