Panico Theodosiou, Rolling Stone, 2021, Hand carved Ōamaru Stone, stainless steel framework, solid bronze sun plaque, macrocarpa handle.

A maker at heart, Panico Theodosiou always works with his hands, whether creating art or engineering steel. But his passion is carving. He studied typography/ink technology and book cover design at the London College of Printing, and spent three years at City and Guilds of London Art School studying stone carving.

Panico has worked in restoration work including on the Hereford Cathedral in the UK. He also studied under John Roberts (the renowned Welsh sculptor who carved the modern-day martyrs on Westminster Abbey). As well as traditional restorative work, Panico developed his own sculptural pieces with his original designs selling to private clients worldwide.

Panico also works as a steel engineer, which has taken his sculpture in a new direction involving metal.

“I express my sculpture through the medium of stone, metal and wood. As a ‘direct carver’ I carve stone without first producing a model, working with materials sourced as close as possible to my location.”
